Scholars from both sides of the Atlantic contributed essays to this collection of selected conference proceedings. The essays in Boccaccio 1313-2013 adopt multiple critical approaches and deal with a variety of themes relevant to current trends in Boccaccio studies, including new historical and biographical perspectives on Boccaccio, the themes of friendship and fame, the author’s work as editor and scribe, the relation of his works to Pre-Humanism and the influence of the Decameron in later theatrical works. The conference, “Boccaccio in Washington, DC,” which was held in October 2013 at Georgetown University and the Italian Institute of Culture at Washington, was the second conference in a triennial series sponsored by the American Boccaccio Association.
